What is egg sharing?

Fertility treatment with egg sharing allows patients with a healthy ovarian reserve to donate some of their eggs to another patient in need. It can be an incredibly rewarding experience, helping someone else take a step towards growing their family, and in return, you'll receive your egg freezing treatment at a reduced cost.

Egg sharing is possible with:

We will always ensure that you have more than enough eggs for your own treatment before we consider sharing your ovarian reserve with another family in need.

How much is IVF with egg sharing?

Initially, you’ll pay for your fertility assessment and consultation. If you’re accepted onto our egg sharing programme, the cost of your treatment cycle, including medication, egg collection and the HFEA treatment fee, will be reduced.

Any medication required throughout your treatment is charged separately. *All prices are subject to regional variation.

"I felt so grateful after my own IVF treatment and realised I could share my eggs too."

"If that’s a gift you can give to someone, then why not. It was such an easy decision. If I was in a situation where I needed a donor egg, I hope someone would be out there to help me.”

How does IVF with egg sharing work?

Every IVF cycle is different and tailored to your individual needs. After initial fertility tests and a consultation with a specialist, you’ll receive a personalised IVF treatment plan. It's at this stage you will also discuss if you are suitable for egg sharing, and receive specialist fertility counselling on the emotional aspects of egg sharing.

A typical IVF cycle will follow the below steps and can take between 4-6 weeks.

Stimulating the ovaries

Step one

Control and stimulation of the ovaries

The appropriate stimulation protocol is determined by a woman’s AMH level, but it generally involves a seven to 14-day course of hormone injections to stimulate the ovaries to produce several good-sized follicles.

Step two

Monitoring progress

Pelvic scans will be performed to check the development and growth of the follicles in the ovaries. This will determine when the eggs are collected from the follicles.

Monitoring progress
Egg retrieval

Step three

Egg retrieval

Once the follicles have reached the correct size, an injection will be given to mature the eggs for collection. A needle is then gently guided through the vaginal wall to capture the eggs one by one. Don’t worry, you will be sedated for this part of the procedure to ensure no pain or discomfort.

For egg sharing to go ahead, we need to collect 12 or more eggs. Eggs are divided immediately after collection between yourself and TFP Fertility's egg donation bank.

Step four

Fertilisation

Healthy eggs are combined with sperm in the lab where they reach and penetrate the egg naturally. A method called intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), where a single sperm is injected directly into each mature egg, may be used for cases of low sperm count or quality.

Fertilising the eggs
Embryo transfer

Step five

Embryo transfer

Fertilised eggs are left for five days to develop into mature embryos. These are monitored using an EmbryoScope™ which helps us select the strongest embryos for transfer. Any additional healthy embryos can be frozen for future use on day five or six of development.
