What is sperm sharing?

Sperm sharing is a process where men undergoing their own fertility treatment, can donate their sperm to help other patients create their own families.

In return you will receive a significant discount towards the cost of your own treatment.

What are the benefits of sperm sharing?

If you donate as part of our sperm share scheme, you will receive:

  • A £2,000 discount voucher for your next treatment cycle

  • Free screening investigations, such as blood tests for viral, bacterial and genetic diseases

  • You will be sharing something truly amazing that will help other patients fulfil their dreams of having a family

Non-smoker for at least three months, including vapes

The process

How does sperm sharing work?

The sperm sharing process is relatively simple - we just require a few fresh sperm samples and a blood test. Here's what to expect:

Sperm density

Fertility and screening tests

We'll first carry out a semen analysis to assess whether you have viable sperm to freeze. We'll also screen for any infection diseases, such as HIV or hepatitis C.

If you have been approached by our clinical team to share sperm after a recent semen analysis which showed good quality semen results, you won't need to repeat this process.

Sperm sharing process

After initial screening tests, if you are found suitable to donate sperm, we will ask you to commit to donating sperm on 6 occasions, within a 3-month period.

For each appointment, you'll come into your chosen TFP Fertility clinic where you'll collect your sample in one of our production rooms.

Don't be alarmed if you can’t produce a sample on a particular day. You can always rebook your appointment. You may also be able to produce your sample at home.

Three months after your final sperm donation, you will also need to return to the clinic for repeat blood screening tests before we can give your donated sperm to the families in need.

Why do we need sperm donors?

TFP already runs a successful donor sperm bank, exclusively for use of TFP patients. However, donors are limited and we strive to improve access to donor sperm by ensuring we have a large variety of donors.

Sperm donation offers new hope for many patients and couples who otherwise would be unable to have children.

A couple lovingly gazes at their sleeping baby, who is cradled in the mother's arms. They sit together on a cozy chair.

Will donors remain anonymous?

Sperm donation is not anonymous, and children born from donation may obtain non-identifying information about their donor at age 16 and identifying information at age 18.

A donor can find out the number of children born from their donations and their sex and year of birth.
