In September 2006, TFP GCRM Fertility opened its doors in Glasgow with just six employees at the helm. Fast forward to 2024 and it’s now celebrating its 18th year, with more than 40 members of staff committed to providing exceptional care.
Back in 2006, the unit was created by Professor Richard Fleming, embryologist, Paul Mitchell and clinician, Marco Gaudoin.
At the time, Prof. Fleming was participating in research with the University of Glasgow where he demonstrated that the anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH), a hormone produced by the cells in the ovarian follicles, could be used to predict a female’s ovarian reserve.
This breakthrough later enabled clinicians to determine the optimum stimulation protocols for IVF thus significantly improving success rates by tailoring protocols to an individual’s ovarian response.
From day one, TFP GCRM’s success exceeded expectations. Within its first year, the clinic had carried out 190 cycles of IVF, more than three times the initial target.
By year two, the Glasgow clinic was receiving visits from patients in Aberdeen who were facing long wait times at more local clinics. Patients from Northern Ireland were also coming to TFP GCRM for the same reason which later led to the introduction of TFP Belfast Fertility.
Over the years, TFP GCRM has also celebrated several other milestones including its 5000th baby born in October 2024 and the world’s first conception of an IVF baby using early embryo viability assessment (EEVA) time-lapse technology in 2013.
Now serving patients across Scotland and the northeast of England, TFP GCRM Fertility is still the only private fertility clinic in Scotland.
Happy birthday TFP GCRM!
