AMH blood test

The AMH (anti-Mullerian hormone) blood test is the first step in assessing your reproductive health if you’ve been struggling to conceive or wish to learn more about the best options for you if you want to try and conceive later on in life.

You need to have completed a fertility assessment, including the AMH blood test, before you can start fertility treatment.

What is an AMH blood test?

The AMH blood test measures your levels of the anti-Mullerian hormone which reflects the number of eggs remaining in the ovaries.

Carrying out an AMH blood test is a good marker of your fertility potential as it enables us to assess your ovarian reserve (egg supply) and predict how many eggs we might be able to collect if fertility treatment is required.

It will also allow us to assess your potential reaction to the stimulating drugs used in fertility treatment.

It’s important to know that the AMH blood test cannot predict the quality of your eggs or the chances of pregnancy.

When should AMH levels be checked?

The AMH blood test can be performed on any day of the month as AMH levels do not change during the menstrual cycle.
