Treatment failure

According to the Statement of the Expert Panel of the Polish Society of Gynecologists and Obstetricians on diagnosis and treatment of infertility, published in Polish Gynecology in 2012, in a modern approach to medicine, all medical procedures should be evaluated for their effectiveness.

In vitro fertilization (IVF) and intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) procedures are considered very effective treatments. However, some cycles do not result in successful implantation, even after multiple transfers with apparently healthy embryos. Sometimes fertilization and embryo implantation occur, but the pregnancy does not develop properly and dies. Although the news of failure is a tremendous stress and an emotional burden, the data obtained during therapy can be important for future medical management.

There are various biological reasons why fertility treatments fail. The most common reasons for failure include:

  • Repeated implantation failures

  • Recurrent miscarriages

  • Poor response to hormonal stimulation

  • Lack of developmental potential of embryos at the preimplantation stage

In accordance with good medical practice, we will discuss with you at the IVF eligibility stage all aspects and limitations based on your specific clinical situation. When deciding on a therapeutic pathway, your TFP physician, both for the first and each subsequent attempt, will determine the risk of failure of the proposed form of therapy. As a result, you will act with greater awareness.

For safety reasons, it is recommended that the interval between hormonal stimulation and ovarian punctures is always consulted with your healthcare provider. It's also a good idea to learn about options that can increase your chances of success.
