Who can accessfertility treatment in Poland?
In Poland, in vitro fertilization (IVF) is generally available to married couples or heterosexual couples in civil partnerships who have been diagnosed with infertility, typically after 12 months of unsuccessful treatment or in situations where other methods have failed to result in pregnancy. Treatment must be provided by a licensed clinic in accordance with the 2015 Infertility Treatment Act; single women and same-sex couples are currently excluded from access to this method, and surrogacy is not legally permitted. Gamete and embryo donation is permitted in Poland and is anonymous; unused embryos may be donated voluntarily, and after 20 years, if they have not been used, they are transferred to an anonymous donation program. Preimplantation genetic testing is permitted only for medical reasons - not for the purpose of selecting the child’s sex or physical characteristics, except to prevent serious hereditary diseases.
