Michelle and Matt are a thoroughly modern couple who met online four years ago through a popular dating website, and live in Wickford. Matt worked in his family’s business, which offers contract cleaning and maintenance, while Michelle worked for Citibank at Canary Wharf.
Michelle says: “We got together and it was clear from almost the beginning that this was it and we were serious about a future together. We started trying for a family quite quickly but nothing happened. We went through the NHS to find out what the issues were and were told that although it wasn’t going to be impossible for us to have a baby together, it was going to be difficult. I had always said “no” to IVF but Matt was keen to give it a try and so we did.”
Michelle and Matt decided to visit Simply Fertility.
The recommendation for Simply Fertility actually came from a friend who had gone through treatment and fell pregnant the first time they tried.
“I was worried about trying IVF because I knew from friends and from what I’d read that it’s a big emotional rollercoaster and can put quite a strain on any relationship. I didn’t want it to come between us. I have seen other couples go through it and although I knew we were strong it did make me wonder what was more important to me. Still, Matt wanted to exhaust this as an option first and so I was willing to give it a go.”
“We went along to an open evening, having already made an appointment for a consultation, and that just confirmed things for us really. At the consultation itself, they were really good at talking through all the options. Mr Gangooly made it very straightforward which means you’re not embarrassed to ask any questions. It was also really useful attending the open evening before the consultation because we had already spoken with Sarah Walt, so when we saw Mr Gangooly, we knew a lot of the answers already. It was a very easy process.
“We had IVF with ICSI and it was not as big a deal as I thought. We live in Wickford so the clinic was very convenient for us. We had one embryo transferred and three frozen. I am 40 and Matt’s 42 and we’re definitely considering doing it all again so will speak to the Simply Fertility team in due course.
“Amazingly, it worked first time and my whole pregnancy was pretty straightforward. I only suffered from the general sort of pregnancy symptoms that you’d expect. We were lucky enough to go to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford and so we were still under Mr Gangooly’s care. The birth was a bit full-on as I was induced two weeks early and ended up with a forceps delivery. I had some haemorrhaging but Amelia was ok. Twelve weeks on and we’re all fine and I’m doing really well, with no lasting effects at all.
“Amelia is absolutely beautiful and we are loving our time together. I am taking the full year’s maternity leave and I’m considering my options right now about what to do when I go back. Amelia and I are going to baby classes and meeting up with new friends. I’m doing lots of local classes so that she is mixing with the babies she’ll go to school with and so that I can get to know all the mums there too.”
