Elizabeth lost eight stone to realise her dream of starting a family and faced another uphill battle when she and husband David were unexpectedly diagnosed with unexplained infertility.
They were one of the last couples able to receive funding for treatment before the NHS stopped funding IVF across Essex in 2016.
Elizabeth and David were referred to Simply Fertility in Chelmsford where a range of tests revealed that Elizabeth had an extremely low AMH level, her ovarian egg reserve. Despite this, the couple opted to try one round of IVF using Elizabeth’s own eggs.
Treatment began, but unfortunately no follicles – or small, fluid filled sacs inside which an immature egg grows – were produced.
Elizabeth explained: “We knew this was likely to happen but even though the odds were stacked against us we wanted to try anyway. I needed to close the door on using my own eggs. It was now time to consider another way.”
Following specialist advice and a counselling session at Simply Fertility, Elizabeth and David felt 100 per cent ready to move ahead.
“I wanted to experience what it is like to be pregnant, so for us, using donor eggs and David’s sperm was a no brainer. The counsellor answered all our questions however silly they seemed – which was so helpful, putting us at ease and allaying our fears.”
The TFP Simply Fertility team worked with Elizabeth and her husband to match their criteria, considering details such as hair and eye colour and skin tone.
They found the IVF process straightforward and are now proud parents to baby Elliott, who has just turned 16 months.
Elizabeth and David are now trying for a second baby with TFP Simply Fertility. We wish them all the luck in the world!
