Getting fertility treatment is one of the most significant events in many people's lives, however the process can seem daunting at first.
Here, we walk you through the general steps you can expect to take on your road to having your new child.
Infertility treatment at our fertility clinic is individualised and always based on comprehensive diagnostics for the woman and the man (see also fertility test). In a detailed initial consultation, the doctor familiarises himself with each individual case in order to tailor the treatment precisely to the patient's needs.
Our common goal is to accompany you on the path to a desired child and to adapt the treatments individually to you. To do this, we first examine you in detail to see what is causing your infertility. Once the diagnosis has been completed and the results are available, we draw up an individual plan for the infertility treatment.
In most cases, IVF treatment starts with hormonal stimulation, which leads to the growth of egg follicles in the woman's ovaries. During this so-called stimulation phase, the diameter and number of follicles in both ovaries are checked, as well as the desired development of the endometrium. This control is usually carried out on the 5th and 8th day of stimulation with the help of ultrasound examinations.
An embryo transfer after 5 days is called a blastocyst transfer. Fertilisation marks the beginning of the development of the embryo and thus the subsequent baby. The blastocyst is the stage of the embryo in which it is after 5 days of so-called cell division development. The transfer of embryos in the blastocyst stage is one of the steps of in vitro fertilisation (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). "Surplus" blastocysts can then be frozen and transferred at a later date. In this case, it is called a cryotransfer.
If a positive pregnancy test comes back after a treatment, you are then booked for a pregnancy scan. If the test unfortunately comes back negative, you will receive a follow-up appointment to see what further steps or treatments could be considered.
